Peru's electoral authority announced the victory of conservative candidate Keiko Fujimori in the presidential runoff, making her the country's next president.
Final results show Fujimori won more than 9.22 million votes, or 50.13% of the total, against more than 9.17 million votes for her rival Roberto Sánchez, who obtained 49.86%.
Fujimori, 51, is set to take office later this month after winning the runoff held on June 7, following her qualification along with her rival from among 35 candidates who contested the first round in April.
Fujimori, the daughter of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, had pledged during her campaign to strengthen security and combat crime.
