Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday offered his condolences to Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in the Qatari capital Doha, where he arrived to pay his respects on the death of former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

President Erdoğan was received at Hamad International Airport by Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, and then proceeded to Lusail Palace.

Accompanying President Erdoğan in offering condolences were Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Head of National Intelligence Organization İbrahim Kalın, Head of Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency Burhanettin Duran, Head of Religious Affairs Safi Arpagush, and Turkey's Ambassador to Doha Mustafa Göksu.

On Sunday, Qatar laid to rest the body of Father Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at Lusail Cemetery, with the participation of the Emir of Qatar, members of the ruling family, and senior officials.

The Amiri Diwan had announced on Sunday morning the death of the former emir at the age of 74.

The late emir took over the rule of Qatar in 1995, before handing over power on June 25, 2013, to his then-crown prince, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
