Two informed sources told US CNN that Israel shared intelligence with the United States indicating that Iran has recently devised a new plan to assassinate US President Donald Trump, heightening tensions amid growing pressure on the ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran.
One of the sources said the warning was issued this week. Another source said the United States has received continuous intelligence information in recent weeks about possible plans to assassinate Trump, but the Israeli warning was new and concerned a specific plot.
Other US officials indicated that the Israeli report might be an attempt to influence Trump's decision as he considers the possibility of escalating US military operations against Iran.
Details of the plot Israel warned about were not immediately clear, and two sources familiar with the matter said the United States had not verified the plot itself and was not monitoring it before the Israeli warning.
The US government has long warned that Iran might try to assassinate Trump in retaliation for the drone strike he ordered in 2020, which killed prominent Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.

When asked for comment on the Israeli warning, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, the White House pointed to Trump's recent statements about Iran's desire to assassinate him.
Trump told reporters on Wednesday: 'They want to get rid of the leader of the United States - me. I'm on any list. I saw this morning that I'm on all their lists. So far, I think I've been a little lucky, but maybe that won't last long. These are evil, sick people. We have to eradicate this cancer. This cancer. You know what you do? You have to eradicate cancer in its early stages. That's how I feel.'
Later, Trump stated that he recently learned of a new list ranking him as Iran's top assassination target. It was unclear whether he was referring to the new Israeli intelligence.
Over the weekend, crowds of Iranians chanted for Trump's death during funeral rites for the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed at the start of the war on February 28, 2026.
Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated in recent days, with both sides exchanging threats and strikes amid the collapse of the 60-day ceasefire.
