A Saudi tourist drowned in a mountain stream in the Trabzon region of northern Turkey after being swept away by water while trying to take a souvenir photo, while his younger brother survived after throwing himself into the water in an attempt to save him.

Turkish media said the incident occurred in the Uzungöl area of Trabzon province, when Saudi citizen Abdulaziz Al-Harbi (39) stepped into a stream to take a photo before losing his balance and being swept away by the strong current.

It added that his brother Omar Al-Harbi (23) quickly entered the water to rescue him, but the force of the current swept both of them far away, before a number of Turkish citizens managed to rescue the younger brother, while the older brother could not be reached and died.

Reports stated that emergency teams rushed to the site, where the victim was recovered and his brother was taken to receive necessary care, while the relevant authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

The Uzungöl area is one of the most famous tourist destinations visited by thousands of Gulf visitors annually, but the surrounding mountain streams and rivers can experience strong water currents, especially in summer with snowmelt at higher elevations, making approaching or entering waterways extremely dangerous.
