Syrian-Iraqi Agreement to Form a High Joint Coordination Committee
Damascus, June 29 (QNA) - Syria and Iraq agreed today to form a High Joint Coordination Committee, a step aimed at following up on bilateral cooperation tracks and coordinating efforts between the two countries in various fields.
A statement by the Syrian Foreign Ministry said the agreement was reached during a meeting between Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein in Damascus. It added that the meeting discussed mechanisms for the transfer and transit of energy supplies, the project to rehabilitate oil pipelines from Iraq to Syria, and cooperation in the fields of water and agriculture, contributing to enhancing joint food security between the two countries, economic integration, and serving common interests.
The two sides also discussed ways to enhance security coordination and joint cooperation to support the security of the two countries and the stability of the region, and to bolster efforts to face common challenges.
