Trump meets Al-Zaidi and hints at oil deals with Iraq
US President Donald Trump praised Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi during their meeting at the White House, hinting at the possibility of concluding major oil deals between the two countries.
US forces will leave Iraq on September 30.
Al-Zaidi's visit to Washington comes amid Iraqi efforts to maintain a balance in relations between the United States and Iran, while his government pledged to monopolize weapons in the hands of the state and end the influence of armed factions loyal to Iran, coinciding with the end of the international coalition's mission in Iraq at the end of next September.
Al-Zaidi announced that US forces will leave Iraq on September 30, stressing that 'there is no justification for any armed faction to remain after this date.'
The Iraqi government seeks to enhance economic cooperation with the United States and attract investments, as Al-Zaidi is accompanied by an official delegation that meets with US officials and oil and energy companies, as part of plans to revive the Iraqi economy and rebuild infrastructure damaged by the war on terror, which Al-Zaidi estimated losses at more than $400 billion.
