U.S. President Donald Trump sent an official letter to Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa informing him of the start of official procedures to remove Syria's designation as a 'state sponsor of terrorism'.

The letter came alongside their meeting in Ankara on the sidelines of the NATO summit.

Trump confirmed in the letter that he officially informed Congress of his decision to remove Syria from the list, explaining that Congress will review the decision for 45 days to confirm and finalize it according to U.S. laws.

Trump stated in his letter: 'I promised to remove all obstacles preventing you from rebuilding your country, and very soon you will finally be able to do so.'
