US President Donald Trump announced that 'the Islamic Republic of Iran requested the United States to continue talks,' stressing that 'Washington agreed to that, but it clearly informed the Iranian side that the ceasefire has ended.'

Trump said in a post on his Truth Social account: 'The Islamic Republic of Iran asked us to continue talks, and we agreed to that, but the United States stated to them unequivocally that the ceasefire has ended! Thank you for your attention to this matter.'

The US strikes on Iran resulted in 17 deaths and 93 injuries over two days, despite a memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides to stop the conflict, according to the latest tally announced by the Iranian Ministry of Health.

US military officials said the recent strikes targeted about 90 Iranian military targets, including air defense systems and missile and drone storage sites.

In response, Iran accused the United States of targeting civilian infrastructure, including bridges and railway lines connecting Tehran and Mashhad in the northeast, also asserting that the strikes hit the 'vicinity' of the nuclear power plant in Bushehr province in the south, which had been attacked during the war, according to an Iranian official.

Trump had announced on Wednesday the end of the memorandum of understanding with Iran, before later revealing Iranian communication with Washington aimed at reaching a deal, indicating the continuation of communication channels between the two sides despite the military escalation.

In a related development, a Qatari delegation arrived in Iran on Friday, according to Tasnim News Agency, following the recent tensions related to the Strait of Hormuz, which included Doha accusing Tehran of targeting one of its tankers, in addition to the exchange of strikes between the United States and the Islamic Republic.
