Burhan Duran, Head of Communications for the Turkish Presidency, said that the approach that ignores Turkey's status as a candidate country once again reveals the EU's lack of vision regarding a shared future.

This came in a blog post on the Turkish platform 'In Social' on Friday, in which he criticized the 'Common Understanding' document issued by the EU on July 15.

Duran stressed that the assessments in the document lack objectivity and strategic vision.

He added, 'This approach, which ignores Turkey's status as a candidate country for EU membership, once again reveals the EU's lack of vision regarding a shared future.'

He explained that at a time when the NATO summit in Ankara clearly affirmed Turkey's indispensable role in the security of the European and Atlantic region, ignoring this fact does not contribute to fostering constructive dialogue.

He emphasized that repeated one-sided rhetoric on the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus does not reflect international law or historical facts.

He added that a permanent solution can only be achieved through a neutral and realistic approach based on fairness.

He stressed the importance of the EU adopting a more responsible discourse, free from prejudice, and based on mutual respect and common interests.
