Turkey plays an active role in launching and continuing the dialogue process between the government and opposition in Somalia, amid ongoing discussions on the constitution and electoral system, while the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has conducted intensive contacts with various parties.
After a period of disagreements between the government and opposition over attempts to amend the constitution and electoral system, talks between the two sides began on Tuesday in the capital Mogadishu, thanks to the efforts of the Turkish intelligence agency.
According to information obtained by Anadolu from security sources, the initiatives led by the agency, under the directives of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with various parties over a long period, have yielded positive results.
The Somali Federal Government and opposition representatives decided to continue the talks, while the process progresses in close coordination between the Turkish intelligence agency and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The security sources reported that the Turkish intelligence agency has been playing a role in building trust among Somali political parties and working to address and resolve differences through dialogue and in a constructive framework.
Throughout various stages of the process, Turkey has emphasized to the parties that achieving lasting peace and stability in Somalia can only be done through dialogue, consensus, and a comprehensive political path.
Turkey stressed that the future of the country can only be built by the will of the Somalis themselves.
The sources added that Turkey, as a true friend and strategic partner of Somalia, will continue to contribute to supporting peace, stability, and development in the country.
**Somali Government and Opposition Thank Turkey
For its part, the Somali government expressed in a statement its gratitude to Turkey for its positive role in facilitating ways of dialogue.
The statement explained that representatives of the government and opposition held a meeting in Mogadishu in a friendly atmosphere.
It added: 'The meeting allowed the parties to exchange their views in an open, honest, and constructive manner, and they expressed their thanks to the Republic of Turkey for the positive and dedicated role it played throughout the dialogue process.'
For his part, former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who participated in the talks representing part of the opposition, said in a statement that the parties agreed during the Mogadishu meeting to continue the comprehensive dialogue process in a way that serves political stability, security, and prosperity in Somalia.
