Kyiv - Agencies:

The Ukrainian army announced it targeted 21 Russian tankers with drones in the Sea of Azov overnight, as part of a campaign to cut off fuel supplies to Moscow's forces in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

It added in a statement that it also targeted four sea tugs, two cargo ships, and a dredger used to provide military forces with logistical supplies and support port infrastructure.

For its part, Russian authorities announced yesterday that one person was killed in a drone attack targeting four ships, including a tanker carrying a shipment of methanol, in the Gulf of Taganrog in the Sea of Azov, according to Reuters.

Yuri Slyusar, governor of the Rostov region in southern Russia, wrote on the Telegram app: 'One of the sailors on a technical support vessel lost his life. I extend my sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased. No one else was injured.'

He added that the ships sustained varying damage, but confirmed that 'there is no possibility of a methanol leak.' Slyusar explained that more than 18 drones were destroyed during the repulsion of the air attack on the area.
