The office of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who was elected to the Senate in 2003 and was a close political ally of President Donald Trump, announced his death on Sunday morning at the age of 71.
Lindsey Graham's office said in a statement that he died on Saturday night "as a result of a brief and sudden health scare."

Graham was chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and was seeking a fifth six-year term in the Senate in November. He was one of the most prominent members of the chamber and had an influential voice within the party on defense and international affairs.
