The Guangxi region in southern China experienced severe floods caused by heavy rains from Typhoon Maesak, resulting in widespread damage and human and material losses.

The floods led to the escape of at least 100 animals from the Guigang Zoo after their enclosures were damaged by continuous rain, according to zoo officials.

Multiple species

The list of escaped animals includes various species such as alpacas, zebras, ostriches, emus, raccoons, parrots, peacocks, pygmy pigs, and wild sheep.

The zoo management called on residents to help locate the missing animals, warning that some may be scared or behave aggressively due to the circumstances they experienced.

Local authorities also urged citizens not to attempt to capture, approach, or provoke the escaped animals to avoid potential risks. The floods caused by the typhoon have killed at least 39 people and prompted the evacuation of about 130,000 residents in the Guangxi region in recent days.
