The European Union car market recorded growth in the first half of 2026, with new car registrations rising by 5.7% compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
The data showed that electric cars continued to strengthen their presence in the European market, accounting for 20.7% of total sales, while hybrids led the scene with a 37.3% share, and gasoline and diesel engine cars made up 29.7% of total registrations. In Belgium, electric car sales rose by 8.2% in the same period, indicating continued growing demand for low-emission vehicles.
The total number of new cars registered in EU countries in the first half of the year reached about 5.9 million, reflecting the continued recovery of the European car market and increased demand despite the economic challenges facing the sector.
