The General Traffic Department emphasized that keeping a safe distance between vehicles while driving provides the driver with enough time to react in case of sudden stop or change in traffic movement, and reduces traffic accidents. It explained that not leaving enough distance between the vehicle and the one in front is a traffic violation subject to a fine between 150 and 300 Riyals. The awareness messages also included the violation of overtaking vehicle columns in front of traffic signals or security checkpoints by using the road shoulder or the dedicated turning lane, which is a violation subject to a fine of 150 to 300 Riyals. It also warned against weaving at high speed between vehicles on public roads, as it causes traffic disruption and increases the likelihood of accidents, with fines ranging from 3,000 to 6,000 Riyals. The traffic authorities called on all vehicle drivers to adhere to designated lanes, respect right of way, and maintain a safe distance in all circumstances, for their safety and the safety of other road users, as part of their awareness messages under the slogan #YourSafety_Matters.
