Japanese stocks close higher

Tokyo, July 09 (QNA) - Japanese stock indexes closed higher at the end of today's trading. The Nikkei index rose 1.4 percent to close at 67,743.85 points, after rising as much as 2.4 percent earlier in the session, following three consecutive days of losses. The broader Topix index also rose 0.4 percent, ending trading at 4,020.37 points. Semiconductor company shares led the Nikkei's gains; shares of Kioxia, a memory chip maker, jumped 8.3 percent, while Advantest, a maker of chip testing equipment, rose 5.9 percent, and Tokyo Electron, a maker of chip manufacturing equipment, climbed 5.5 percent. Among the biggest percentage losers on the index, Mitsubishi Materials shares fell 6.9 percent, while Yokohama Rubber shares declined 3.5 percent.
