Asian Stocks Rise
Most Asian stock markets rose in trading today after a rise in US stocks at the close of yesterday's trading, despite concerns over rising oil prices and inflation expectations.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index rose 1.9% to 67,511.12 points, after the Japanese government announced growth in exports and imports last month, as the yen's depreciation against the dollar increased the value of exports and imports when converted to local currency.
The S&P/ASX 200 index of Australian stocks rose 0.4% to 8,830.60 points, the KOSPI index of Korean stocks rose 4.6% to 7,061.36 points, while the Hang Seng index of the Hong Kong stock exchange fell 0.7% to 24,947.30 points, and the Shanghai Composite index of Chinese stocks rose 0.5% to 3,882.95 points.
Shares of computer chip makers and other companies benefiting from the artificial intelligence boom posted further gains, contributing to the rise of US Wall Street indices yesterday, with the S&P 500 index rising 0.9%.
