From the early days of launching Saudi Vision 2030, the government realized that building a modern and developed state in its comprehensive concept is not limited to achievements of establishing a strong economy and sustainable development, alongside improving services provided to community members, such as education and health, among others. Instead, there must first be a healthy and stable environment that embraces the maker of all these achievements, namely 'people,' who have always been the focus of the Kingdom's Vision and the primary goal of any targeted development plans.

The Kingdom did not want its interest in the environment to be random, without controls and systems that ensure the continuity of this interest. It strengthened the scene with a precise legislative, financial, and operational framework, translating the Kingdom's firm commitment to environmental issues domestically and abroad. This commitment is embodied internally through 86 initiatives and programs under the umbrella of the 'Saudi Green Initiative,' with investments exceeding 705 billion riyals, reflecting the Kingdom's keenness to reshape the environmental and economic landscape to ensure land rehabilitation and protect biodiversity. This is sufficient to cement the Kingdom's position as a global heavyweight for serious climate action.

Through its exceptional interest in the environment, the Kingdom aims to achieve a set of health, social, and economic goals, most importantly providing a healthy environment free of diseases that enhances the health of citizens and residents. Additionally, the environmental dimension is to be a key focus in all developmental and economic sectors, enhancing the security of natural resources, supporting their equitable use, optimal exploitation, and investment, thereby ensuring the rights of future generations, diversifying production sources and economic activities, supporting competitiveness, and providing new job opportunities for the nation's children, and eliminating unemployment.

Added to the above is the Kingdom's diligent pursuit of reaching net zero and reducing emissions by 278 million tons annually, ensuring a sustainable future while improving the quality of life in society. This confirms the Kingdom's leadership in driving the transition towards an innovative green economy that balances development ambitions with protecting nature's resources to ensure lasting prosperity.

The Kingdom would not strive to enhance the fruits of the green economy with such intensive effort without its firm belief that this economy is capable of reshaping the local investment map by creating added value beyond traditional resources and transitioning to a cleaner and more sustainable energy system, thus ensuring compound investment returns; while simultaneously reducing the national health bill resulting from pollution, lowering operational costs for industrial facilities through energy efficiency, and opening new markets in future technologies. This type of economy relies on technological innovation, characterized by rapid growth, making it more attractive to global capital seeking investment assets that adhere to environmental governance standards to ensure the sustainability of their profits in the long term.
