Saudi Arabia welcomed a Jordanian initiative to operate regular commercial flights between the Jordanian capital Amman and Sanaa in Yemen.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the initiative announced by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs contributes to meeting the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people and facilitating the movement of civilians.

Saudi Arabia also welcomed the Yemeni government's approval of the initiative, 'considering it a positive step showing its keenness to facilitate procedures that serve Yemeni citizens and support efforts to alleviate humanitarian suffering.'

The Yemeni government had welcomed the Jordanian initiative on Friday and affirmed its commitment to providing all necessary facilities for the success of the initiative.

The Yemeni government also affirmed that the initiative 'fully aligns with the initiatives previously proposed by the Yemeni state to operate Sanaa Airport legally and safely through the national carrier, Yemenia Airways, to any destination agreed upon, ensuring service to all citizens without discrimination, preserving the country's sovereignty, and respecting national laws and the rules of international law.'

Call for positive interaction

The Saudi Foreign Ministry statement called on the Houthi group to interact positively with this initiative 'instead of repeating their past mistakes that caused increased suffering for the brotherly Yemeni people, and to stop any escalatory practices or actions that drag Yemen and its brotherly people into more suffering.'
