Al-Ahsa okra has topped the scene of summer crops in the markets of Al-Ahsa, with rising demand for this local product known for its small size, tenderness, and distinctive flavor, making it the most prominent item in the seasonal food basket in the Eastern Region and neighboring countries.

It is packed directly from the fields into boxes weighing between 10 and 12 kilograms.

Residents of Al-Ahsa call the Al-Ahsa okra names such as "khunaysiri okra" and "cardamom okra," likening its small size, tenderness, and shape to a cardamom pod when freshly picked. These names have become common among farmers due to the distinctiveness of this local crop in terms of texture, size, and flavor.

Farmers harvest the okra about three months after planting, and it is carefully sorted to ensure the fruits remain small to medium-sized, which are most preferred by consumers. It is packed directly from the fields into boxes weighing between 10 and 12 kilograms before being offered in markets, where prices vary according to the quality and quantity of supply.

Dr. Muhammad al-Muji from King Faisal University explained that okra is rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, stressing the importance of daily harvesting to avoid large fruits that reduce quality and increase fibrosis. Meanwhile, agricultural specialist Abdullah al-Salem confirmed that the summer season is the most productive and in demand, and that okra cultivation requires abundant irrigation and protection from dust.

Al-Ahsa Oasis continues to strengthen its agricultural presence by producing various summer crops, including watermelon, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, cowpeas, blackberries, figs, green lemons, and others, making it one of the most important agricultural environments in the Kingdom during the summer season.
