Engineer Al-Sharari: Vision 2030 Transformed Construction Sector from Project Execution to Future-Making and Global Leadership
Dr. Fahd bin Dhaifallah Al-Sharari, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at Al-Jouf University and member of the Saudi Council of Engineers, emphasized that the construction sector in the Kingdom has undergone a radical transformation since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030. It has shifted from relying on traditional methods in project execution to an integrated national system based on quality, efficiency, modern technologies, and sustainability, making it one of the key drivers of economic and urban development in the Kingdom.
Al-Sharari explained that Vision 2030 was not limited to launching mega projects but established a new phase in the sector’s development by updating regulations and legislation, implementing the Saudi Building Code, promoting sustainable building programs, supporting modern construction methods, and employing digital technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence, and 3D printing. This has helped improve project quality, accelerate completion, and enhance efficiency.
He pointed out that major national projects such as NEOM, the Red Sea, Qiddiya, Diriyah, and AlUla have become practical models for applying the latest concepts in planning, execution, and sustainability. They have contributed to cementing the Kingdom’s position as a prominent global destination in the construction sector.
Al-Sharari noted that the establishment of the Saudi Building Code Center represents an important institutional milestone in the sector’s development journey. It enhances commitment to technical standards and instills a culture of quality across all stages of design, execution, operation, and maintenance.
He stated that the Kingdom is steadily moving toward building a smarter and more competitive construction sector, leveraging digital transformation and the expansion of modern construction technologies to keep pace with upcoming global events, foremost among them Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which will serve as additional incentives for infrastructure development and innovation.
Al-Sharari concluded his statement by affirming that the Saudi construction sector is no longer just a sector for executing projects. Instead, it has become an economic and civilizational lever that embodies the goals of Vision 2030, contributing to a more diversified economy, a sustainable urban environment, and a leading global position in the construction and building industry.
