Heatwaves raise rates of anxiety, stress and psychological disorders

Dr. Ahmed Fawzy, a mental health consultant, said that heatwaves affect brain chemistry by disrupting the work of neurotransmitters, which reflects on mood, concentration and irritability. He added that high temperatures may increase symptoms of anxiety and depression in psychiatric patients, and raise levels of stress and nervousness, stressing that the weather's impact varies according to environment and psychological state.
