Minister of State for Foreign Trade: Free Trade Agreement between GCC and UK will directly impact private sector in Qatar
Doha, May 21 (QNA) - His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said that the free trade agreement signed between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and the United Kingdom will directly impact the private sector in Qatar.
His Excellency explained that the agreement will grant Qatari companies broader opportunities to access the British market and enhance their competitiveness in digital trade, financial services, and energy, thus opening new horizons for economic growth.
Yesterday, the joint statement concluding the free trade agreement negotiations between the GCC states and the United Kingdom was signed, as part of efforts to strengthen economic and trade partnership between the two sides.
His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry participated in a meeting of GCC trade ministers with the British side, held via video conference.
His Excellency affirmed that the conclusion of the free trade agreement negotiations between the GCC and the UK represents an achievement that reflects Qatar's status and its active role in shaping the future of international economic relations.
He added: "This agreement is not limited to enhancing trade exchange, but rather establishes a long-term economic partnership with the United Kingdom, granting Qatari companies and investors broader opportunities to access global markets, thereby boosting the competitiveness of the Qatari economy and cementing its position as a regional hub for trade and energy."
His Excellency concluded by stressing that Qatar will continue to work with its GCC partners to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement's provisions, turning them into tangible gains for the Gulf peoples and economies.
The agreement aims to support trade exchange, enhance investments, and open broader horizons for economic cooperation between the two sides, serving mutual interests.
