Nikkei closes higher, posts weekly gains

Japan's Nikkei index rose on Friday, posting a modest weekly gain, as receding expectations of a U.S. interest rate hike and positive economic data from Japan boosted sentiment.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index climbed 1.47% to close at 69,744.07, recovering from a 1.6% drop earlier in the session. (Reuters)
The broader Topix index rose 1.24% to 4,064.60, extending its winning streak to a fifth straight session and marking its longest winning run since October 2025.
