Manchester City has sealed one of the most prominent deals of the summer transfer window, announcing the signing of English midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest on a contract extending until summer 2031.

Media outlets estimated the deal at around £116 million, making it the most expensive in the club's history and the second most expensive in British football history, after Morgan Rogers' transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea for £117 million.

Anderson expressed his great happiness, emphasizing that his desire to wear the City shirt was clear from the first moment.

He said: 'As soon as I learned of Manchester City's interest, my only goal was to complete the deal. Playing for this club gives me the opportunity to compete at the highest level, and I will do everything I can to secure my place in the squad.'

The agreement between the two clubs came during the player's participation with the England national team in the World Cup, as negotiations continued alongside the tournament, before the final formula was reached on the eve of England's match against Panama in the group stage.

Anderson arrives at the Etihad after delivering an exceptional season with Nottingham Forest, which he joined in summer 2024 from Newcastle United for £35 million.

The 23-year-old midfielder contributed to Forest finishing the English Premier League season in seventh place and qualifying for European competitions for the first time in three decades, as well as playing a prominent role in the team reaching the Europa League semi-finals.

Anderson will begin a new chapter under the guidance of Italian coach Enzo Maresca, who took over as Manchester City manager following the departure of Pep Guardiola, emphasizing that the winning and dominant mentality of the club was the biggest motivation for choosing this step.
