Abdulmajeed Al-Amoudi, director of one of the centers of the global brand 'Trek' for distributing and selling bicycles in Saudi Arabia, said that the Saudi market is witnessing growth in demand due to the increase in the number of cyclists, the expansion of sports groups that attract various categories, from beginners to professionals, in addition to the spread of bicycle paths in most neighborhoods of cities.

The growth in bicycle imports has led a parallel recovery in support services, evident in the sector of bicycle tires, which recorded notable growth last year, as the number of imported tires exceeded 241,000 tires worth 1.6 million riyals, compared to about 185,000 tires worth 1.3 million riyals in the previous year, achieving an increase of 30% in quantity and 23% in value, according to 'Statistics' data.

Al-Amoudi said that 'hybrid' fitness bicycles top sales, as they meet the needs of most users and are suitable for both sports and daily use.

Hybrid bicycles combine the speed and lightness of road bikes with the control strength of mountain bikes, and provide an upright and comfortable riding position supported by medium tires that achieve perfect balance and stability on asphalt roads and paved dirt tracks.

Prices start from 500 riyals and reach 100,000

Al-Amoudi pointed out that popular bicycle prices start from about 500 riyals, while professional bicycles for adults start from about two thousand riyals.

Prices of professional bicycles for teams participating in global races and tours, as Al-Amoudi says, can reach between 90,000 and 100,000 riyals, while prices of bicycles purchased by amateurs and advanced users range between 10,000 and 40,000 riyals, depending on specifications and equipment.

The age group most inclined to buy bicycles ranges between 25 and 35 years, with increasing demand also from users over 50 years old, while demand from expatriate workers remains limited due to high prices of professional bicycles, although some of them opt for medium-value bicycles to commute to their nearby workplaces.

Expectations of continued momentum in the coming years

For his part, Mohammed Abdulsalam, sales manager at one of the bicycle sales centers in Dammam, said that the demand for purchasing bicycles is increasing for use in sports and daily transportation, expecting continued sales growth in the coming years with the expansion of projects to implement bicycle paths in cities such as Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah.

He confirmed that higher prices are usually associated with European and American brands specialized in racing, while Taiwan, China, and India remain the main centers for manufacturing the largest bulk of bicycles globally.

He added that the market offers options suitable for various consumer segments, as prices start from about 500 riyals, while prices of professional bicycles exceed 60,000 riyals, depending on the brand and technical specifications, such as light weight, high rigidity, professional transmission systems, and high-efficiency hydraulic brakes.

While prices of bicycles for children, beginners, and daily use range between 300 and 800 riyals, prices of bicycles for city commuting start from about 900 riyals and reach 1,500 riyals, while prices of mountain and hybrid bicycles range between 1,600 and 4,200 riyals.
