Saudi Industrial Production Index Rises 3.2% in May Month-on-Month
Data from the General Authority for Statistics in Saudi Arabia showed on Thursday that the industrial production index in the kingdom rose by 3.2% in May on a monthly basis.
The sub-index for manufacturing activity rose by 1.6% in May on a monthly basis, driven by a 5.9% increase in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products and a 0.2% increase in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products.
The sub-index for electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply activity rose by 15.8% in May compared to the previous month, and water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities rose by 0.2%.
On an annual basis, the index declined by 18.7% in May 2026 compared to the same month last year, due to a 28.6% annual decrease in mining and quarrying activity and a 6.2% decline in manufacturing activity, affected by a 16.7% drop in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products and a 4% drop in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products.
