The state-run Altyn Asyr channel in Turkmenistan reported on Saturday, citing official data, that the country's natural gas production reached 39.1 billion cubic meters in the first half of 2026, compared to 38.9 billion cubic meters in the same period last year.

The Central Asian country holds the fourth-largest natural gas reserves in the world, and directs most of its exports this year to China, which has been the largest buyer of Turkmen gas for nearly two decades.

It exports smaller amounts to Uzbekistan.

The total gas production for 2026 is expected to be slightly lower than last year's level.

Maksat Babayev, head of the state-owned company Turkmengaz, said in April that the country plans to produce about 76 billion cubic meters of gas this year.

Turkmenistan produced 76.5 billion cubic meters of gas in 2025, compared to 77.6 billion cubic meters in 2024.

The Altyn Asyr channel reported that Turkmenistan's oil production is set to rise slightly, reaching 4.129 million tons in the first half of 2026, compared to 4.091 million tons in the same period last year.
