Why Did the IMF Predict a Slowdown in Eurozone Growth?
The International Monetary Fund expects Eurozone economic growth to slow to 0.9% in 2026, compared to 1.4% in 2025, attributing this to the repercussions of the war in the Middle East and the pressures it has placed on economic activity. The Fund explained, in a report released today, that the war has weakened business and consumer confidence, tightened financial conditions, and raised inflationary pressures due to energy market disruptions. The Ministry of Commerce revealed the detection of 412 initial suspicions of commercial concealment during the second quarter of the current year 2026, after carrying out 14,520 inspection visits to combat commercial concealment, targeting 10,626 establishments and 3,901 companies.
The ministry detected a number of commercial concealment violations, most notably the absence of electronic payment methods and violations of the labor and residency system.
The ministry explained that the most prominent activities targeted by the visits included: 'central markets for food and consumer goods, popular cafes, retail sales of household electronic and electrical appliances, car service and maintenance centers, fresh juice and cold beverage services, and retail sales of frozen meat and poultry.'
The ministry stated that total fines and violations for combating commercial concealment amounted to 1.14 million riyals, and included 1,119 reports of suspected concealment, 194 violations referred to the Committee for Reviewing Violations of the Anti-Commercial Concealment System, and two violations referred to the Public Prosecution.
The ministry noted that the joint supervisory teams of the National Program for Combating Commercial Concealment carried out 919 inspection rounds on meat sales outlets in various regions of the Kingdom, with the aim of enhancing the level of compliance in the local market and monitoring establishments' adherence to laws and regulations.
