180 Days to Complete Regulation: New System Brings Entertainment Activities Under Licensing Umbrella

The General Entertainment Authority announced the key provisions of the Entertainment Activities and Supporting Activities System, approved by the Cabinet to develop the regulatory framework for the sector, support investment, and improve the quality of entertainment experiences. The system prohibits engaging in any entertainment activity without a license from the authority, grants it supervisory powers and the ability to halt violative activities, and includes the issuance of the implementing regulations.

The Cabinet approved the Entertainment Activities and Supporting Activities System, and the General Entertainment Authority reviewed its main provisions aimed at developing the regulatory framework for the sector, supporting the business environment, enhancing investment, and improving the quality of entertainment experiences to contribute to the sustainable growth of the sector.

The Authority explained that the system prohibits practicing any entertainment or supporting activity without obtaining a license, permit, or accreditation certificate issued by it in accordance with regulatory provisions, noting that private entertainment events and shows that are not open to the public are not considered activities covered by the system.

The Authority stated that the system aims to regulate, develop, and improve the quality of entertainment and supporting activities, thereby enhancing sector efficiency and aligning with national development goals.

Regarding oversight, the Authority confirmed that it supervises entertainment and supporting activities, receives reports, and detects violations of the system and regulations, in addition to its authority to fully or partially, permanently or temporarily halt any entertainment or supporting activity in cases specified by the system.

The Authority stated that its Board of Directors will issue the implementing regulations of the system within no more than 180 days from its publication date, to complete the necessary regulatory frameworks for full implementation of its provisions.
