From this deep awareness of this important human discipline came the "Translation Award" as part of the "National Cultural Awards" initiative organized by the Ministry of Culture, to honor translators who have made knowledge more accessible and cultural dialogue more expansive.

The award comes as one of the tracks that reflect the initiative's awareness of the importance of specialized cultural sectors and their role in building an integrated cultural scene. Since the launch of the "National Cultural Awards" in 2020, the Ministry of Culture has sought through the initiative to keep pace with cultural transformations by continuously developing its tracks. It started with 14 tracks before reaching 19 tracks in its latest edition for 2025, in a clear affirmation of the vitality and diversity of the Saudi cultural sector.

The importance of the "Translation Award" lies in its ability to shed light again on this field as one of the most important civilizational bridges between peoples. Throughout history, translation has played a pivotal role in the transfer of sciences, philosophy, and literature, and has always been a major driver of the flourishing of civilizations. Today, the award continues this legacy by honoring translators who contribute to enriching Arab content and opening new windows for local and Arab readers to global experiences. The award also gives a strong boost to those working in this sector and encourages new generations to enter the world of translation as a cognitive and creative field that requires linguistic sensitivity, cultural awareness, and the ability to understand the subtle details of texts. In this sense, it not only honors individuals but also helps stimulate the entire translation movement and raise the level of interest in it within the cultural scene. The award has reflected diversity in winning experiences, confirming the breadth and multiplicity of interests of Saudi translation. In the first edition, Abdullah Idris, Sultan Al-Mujayil, and Bandar Al-Harbi won. In the second cycle, the award went to Sharif Baqnah, while the third cycle crowned Maha Al-Faleh. Walid Al-Omari won the award for the 2024 cycle, and Abdullah Al-Wali'i received it in 2025. Over these years, the award celebrated different experiences that presented translation as a cultural act transcending language boundaries and provided qualitative efforts in transferring knowledge and literature to the Arab library.

What distinguishes this award is that it does not view translation as a technical work but as a creative act that participates in shaping awareness, expanding the reader's horizon, and enhancing dialogue between cultures. Every translated book carries a new window to the world, and every translator contributes in their own way to building this long bridge between peoples and knowledge.
