The family did not reveal the cause of death, but stated that Neill 'remained cancer-free' until his death.
Neill had previously announced in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma.
During his decades-long career, Neill received widespread acclaim for the diversity of his roles between art films and major Hollywood productions.
He gained worldwide fame for his portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in the film 'Jurassic Park', and also played a prominent role in the film 'The Piano' alongside actress Holly Hunter.
Neill was among the actors and filmmakers who contributed to enhancing the global presence of Australian and New Zealand cinema since the late 1970s, alongside Paul Hogan, Mel Gibson, Geoffrey Rush, Russell Crowe, Jane Campion, Peter Weir, and Gillian Armstrong.
