Data from French health authorities, as reported by BFM TV, revealed 5,764 excess deaths recorded between June 17 and July 2, the period when France experienced exceptional heatwaves.

The channel noted that this figure reflects a 36% increase in the death rate compared to usual rates during the same period.

French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist had earlier estimated the number of excess deaths in late June at around 2,025, but the final figures turned out to be much higher than initially announced.
