The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) reported registering 7,408 reports of adverse drug reactions during June 2026, appreciating the role of hospitals and health centers in reporting, and commending the entities that submitted high-quality reports, thereby enhancing the pharmacovigilance system and raising the level of medication safety. The Authority indicated that the top five healthcare facilities distinguished by the quality of submitted reports in June contributed a total of 5,948 reports, representing about 80% of all reports recorded during the month, reflecting the effectiveness of their reporting systems and their role in supporting the Authority's efforts to monitor drug safety. SFDA data showed that the Armed Forces Hospital of the South in Khamis Mushait topped the list of the most reporting entities with 4,836 reports, followed by Prince Sultan Military Medical City in Riyadh with 601 reports, then Taif Health Cluster with 323 reports, King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital in Sakaka with 310 reports, and the First Health Cluster in Riyadh came fifth with 157 reports. Patient Safety: The Authority expressed its gratitude to the hospitals and health centers that contributed to reporting adverse reactions during the month, appreciating their commitment and the quality of the submitted reports. It stressed that reporting adverse reactions contributes to monitoring drug safety and analyzing potential risks, supporting the necessary regulatory actions to enhance patient safety and improve healthcare efficiency. Nature of Drugs: The Authority affirmed that adverse reactions are unintended and undesirable effects that sometimes occur during the use of pharmaceutical products (medicines, vaccines, herbal products, or health supplements) at their correct doses, noting that many people use medicines without experiencing any adverse reactions, and the occurrence of adverse reactions depends on the health condition and the nature of the drug. Some adverse reactions may occur immediately after taking the drug, such as allergies, while others may take days, like skin rash. Adverse reactions occur after using a new drug or increasing the dose of a drug you are currently using, and minor adverse reactions often resolve on their own. Yaqaz Service: "Yaqaz" is a service that allows reporting adverse reactions, medication errors, or any quality defects in pharmaceutical products. These reports are handled by the National Pharmacovigilance Center at the SFDA, which continuously monitors and evaluates pharmaceutical products to provide safe, high-quality medicines to the community. The "Yaqaz" service also allows community members to report adverse reactions to cosmetic products, cases of food poisoning, or defects in medical devices and supplies. SFDA Reports: 7,408 reports of adverse drug reactions; 4,836 Armed Forces Hospital of the South in Khamis Mushait; 601 Prince Sultan Military Medical City in Riyadh; 323 Taif Health Cluster; 310 King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital in Sakaka; 157 First Health Cluster in Riyadh.
