The Egyptian Medical Syndicate announced that the Appellate Disciplinary Board for Physicians at the Cairo Court of Appeals issued a final ruling rejecting Dr. Gouda Awwad's appeal and upholding the decision to suspend him from practicing medicine for one year, due to his violation of the code of professional conduct and promotion of unproven treatments for patients with serious diseases.
The Egyptian Medical Syndicate announced that the Appellate Disciplinary Board for Physicians at the Cairo Court of Appeals ruled to reject Dr. Gouda Awwad's appeal against the verdict issued by the Primary Disciplinary Board, which sentenced him to a full-year suspension from practicing medicine for violating the provisions of the code of professional conduct.
The doctor's name has been linked over the past years to several therapeutic claims that sparked widespread controversy in medical circles, including promoting the discontinuation of prescribed treatments for patients, such as advising patients to stop dialysis sessions, as well as claims about the ability to treat serious diseases like cancer and other chronic illnesses with unproven methods and products.
The syndicate clarified in its statement that the doctor persistently promoted prescriptions and treatments not based on approved medical evidence, which drew widespread criticism and repeated warnings from the relevant authorities due to the serious risks this posed to patients' health.
In April 2025, the Disciplinary Board of the General Medical Syndicate decided to impose a one-year suspension penalty on Dr. Gouda Awwad, with notification to the relevant authorities to implement the decision.
Dr. Shady Safwat, representative of the Disciplinary Board of the Medical Syndicate, confirmed that the ruling issued by the Appellate Disciplinary Board rejecting the appeal and upholding the suspension penalty constitutes a final judgment that is not subject to appeal.
Dr. Safwat stressed that protecting patients and maintaining medical practice based on scientific evidence are among the syndicate's top responsibilities, affirming its determination to confront any practices or therapeutic claims that contradict established scientific rules, or any publicity that violates the laws regulating the profession.
