A Saudi medical team at King Faisal General Hospital in Al-Ahsa successfully diagnosed a rare blood clotting disorder in a newborn, the first of its kind in Al-Ahsa, an achievement reflecting the development of specialized and advanced healthcare in the Kingdom's health sector.

The Al-Ahsa Health Cluster explained that the urgent intervention by the treating medical team, within the systems and pathways of the Saudi Health Care Model, helped save the life of a newborn with factor X deficiency, a rare blood disease that leads to clotting and poses a life-threatening risk.

Specialized Medical Teams

The case was accurately diagnosed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit through integrated coordination among specialized medical teams within the Safe Birth and Urgent Care systems, part of the Saudi Health Care Model. The Al-Ahsa Health Cluster pointed out that managing the child's case according to approved medical protocols promptly helped avoid potential complications, and the child left the hospital in good health without any recorded complications, under the supervision of consultants and with active participation from nursing and pharmaceutical staff.

Genetic Defect

The cluster added that the urgent intervention and early detection of the genetic defect through specialized clinical and genetic tests helped reach the final accurate diagnosis and develop an appropriate treatment plan, noting that the medical efforts, thankfully, resulted in successful treatment and stabilization of the patient's condition. This achievement is a model of integrated efforts among national medical teams, supported by the unlimited support the Saudi health sector receives at all levels of care, including rare cases, in line with the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program and Saudi Vision 2030.
