(IONM) Succeeds in Removing Tumor Inside Spinal Cord at Qassim University Medical City
A surgical team at Qassim University Medical City successfully performed a precise and complex surgery to remove a tumor inside the spinal cord of a 26-year-old female patient who was suffering from severe weakness in both lower limbs, accompanied by sensory disturbances, after diagnosing her condition with a tumor compressing the spinal cord at the level of the tenth thoracic vertebra (T10).
The medical team, led by Dr. Abdullah Faisal Al-Khamis, Consultant Neurosurgeon, and Dr. Rasha Zeidan, Consultant Anesthesiologist, successfully performed the surgery using a surgical microscope and precise techniques, in addition to using Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM), which is one of the modern and advanced techniques that contributes to real-time monitoring of nerve functions and reduces the likelihood of neurological complications during surgery. This achievement represents a qualitative step in the development of neurosurgery services at Qassim University Medical City, as this is the first time this type of precise surgery has been performed within the medical city, reflecting the continuous development of medical and specialized capabilities.
