Cardiology Consultant: Walking Does Not Replace Medication and Only Reduces HbA1c by 0.8%
Dr. Khalid Al-Nimr, a consultant and professor of cardiology and arterial catheterization, explained that the statement that walking for half an hour is equivalent to a pill is generally inaccurate, emphasizing that walking is an important component of a comprehensive treatment plan but does not replace medication for individuals whose health conditions require its use.
Al-Nimr pointed out that walking has moderate effectiveness in reducing HbA1c, with a reduction rate not exceeding 0.8%, and it also helps lower systolic blood pressure by an average of 5 to 9 mmHg.
He noted that the effect of walking on lowering LDL cholesterol is limited, with an average reduction of no more than about 5%.
