Dr. Saleh Al-Dammas, a consultant in pulmonary diseases, said that there are three million asthma patients in the Kingdom.

Al-Dammas added, during his appearance on the program "Ya Hala" broadcast on "Rotana Khalijia" channel, that people most at risk of health problems resulting from chronic exposure to certain substances are those with allergic diseases.

He continued that asthma affects 400 million people worldwide, and it is one of the chronic diseases that drain the healthcare sector due to frequent emergency visits, intensive care admissions, and repeated absences from work and school, while asthma attacks can be avoided and prevented.

The consultant added that one of the reasons for this is exposure to volatile organic compounds, harmful particles, or gases emitted from fragrances, including nitrogen oxides, warning against the use of scented candles that emit a highly toxic substance that affects cognitive and mental abilities, the respiratory system, and the central nervous system if exposed for long periods.
