The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Democratic Republic of Congo announced that the number of confirmed Ebola cases has risen to 2,073, including 796 deaths, as of July 14.
Health authorities explained that containment efforts still face challenges, most notably the difficulty of tracking contacts, as the coverage rate of people exposed to the infection has not exceeded 76%.

This comes alongside a warning from the World Health Organization that the actual number of infected people in the Democratic Republic of Congo may be at least double the official tally. The country, located in Central Africa, has been fighting an outbreak of the Ebola virus caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain since mid-May, as health efforts continue to limit the spread of the disease.
