A state of anxiety prevailed among residents of Abshaway city in Fayoum Governorate, southwest of Egypt, after spotting an unknown wild animal wandering in one of the city's streets before fleeing to nearby agricultural lands.

Witnesses circulated a video clip documenting the animal's appearance on Mohamed Ali Agha Street, near the Agricultural Administration, sparking fear among residents, especially as its type and degree of danger could not be determined.

Following the incident, residents issued urgent appeals to the competent authorities, foremost the Veterinary Administration, to intervene quickly, examine the incident, identify the animal, and take necessary measures to deal with it if needed.

Residents also demanded that the authorities issue an official statement clarifying the nature of the animal and whether it poses a danger to citizens or threatens livestock in the area, in order to dispel anxiety and help take appropriate preventive measures.

This incident came weeks after wild foxes were spotted in the Pyramids Gardens area of Giza Governorate, in events that brought to the forefront the phenomenon of wild animals approaching residential areas.

Some residents believe that the recurrence of these sightings is due to two main factors: first, the city's location near a vast desert hinterland and open agricultural areas that are the natural habitat of wild animals; and second, the accumulation of garbage and food waste in some sites, which attracts these animals and drives them to sneak into residential communities in search of food.
