The Environment, Water, and Agriculture Branch in the Makkah region recorded 20 violations in 6 months, which included the use of water sources without legal licenses and previously drilled wells without permits, urging farmers and well owners to quickly rectify their situations before the deadline for obtaining 'usage' licenses expires.

The Director General of the branch, Engineer Walid Al-Daghis, reported that the violations were distributed among the holy capital (Mecca), Al-Jamum, and Jeddah, stressing that the oversight aims to regulate groundwater use and protect water resources and their sustainability. He pointed out that the most notable violations include operating wells without a license, after license expiry, changing the usage activity, or exceeding authorized pumping quantities, and that penalties start with a warning and can reach a fine of 150,000 riyals.
