2,600 Animals Die in Kingdom in First Quarter of 2026
The Kingdom recorded the death of 2,646 animals during the first quarter of 2026, a significant decline compared to the same period last year.
Animal deaths are usually caused by the spread of epidemic or parasitic diseases.
According to a statistic published by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the total number of dead animals fell from 9,776 heads in the first quarter of 2025 to 2,646 heads in the same period of 2026, a decrease of 73%.
April was the most notable month, with numbers dropping from 5,741 heads in 2025 to just 882 heads in 2026, a decline exceeding 85%. March also recorded the lowest monthly number in years, with only 223 heads, compared to 891 heads in March 2025.
The ministry did not specify the reasons for these animal deaths or the decline in the number of deaths in 2026, but improvements in vaccination and prevention programs, intensified veterinary control, and protection of livestock may be among the factors that contributed to reducing mortality.
The causes of animal deaths usually include the spread of epidemic or parasitic diseases, weak veterinary follow-up, lack of fodder or water contamination, in addition to heat waves, drought, poor breeding practices, or overcrowding in barns, making prevention and early monitoring key factors in reducing mortality rates.
