The European Union on Wednesday condemned the Houthi group's attack on Abha Airport in Saudi Arabia, considering it 'a threat to the security and stability of the region.'
That came in a brief statement published by the European Union mission to Yemen on its account on the American platform 'X'.
The mission said: 'The European Union condemns the latest attack carried out by the Houthis on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which threatens the security of the region.'
It affirmed the European Union's commitment to 'the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Yemen,' stressing its 'full support for the Yemeni government.'
The European position comes after the Houthi group announced on Monday that it had targeted Abha Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and drones.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced that Saudi air defenses intercepted missiles fired by the group toward the southern region of the kingdom.
On Monday, the Yemeni government announced that its forces targeted the runway of Sanaa International Airport to prevent an Iranian plane from landing, saying that was in response to what it described as a violation of the country's sovereignty, before the plane landed at Hodeidah Airport in western Yemen.
In contrast, the Houthi group accused Saudi Arabia of bombing Sanaa Airport, considering that to be an end to de-escalation, while no comment has been issued from Riyadh on those accusations.
