The Eastern Province Municipality has completed qualitative works in road maintenance and enhancing traffic safety during the first half of 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of the road network and upgrade infrastructure quality, contributing to improving quality of life and upgrading the urban landscape in the cities and governorates of the region.

Engineer Mazen bin Adel Bukhari, Undersecretary of the Municipality for Construction and Projects, explained that the municipality carried out maintenance works covering three main axes with an area exceeding 1.86 million square meters, in addition to maintaining two main roads covering an area of 331 thousand square meters, and maintenance of 11 main roads and links covering an area exceeding 1.14 million square meters, in addition to implementing maintenance works in six neighborhoods covering an area of about 784 thousand square meters, and developing and maintaining seven intersections covering an area exceeding 65 thousand square meters. He said that the works included road markings totaling 73 thousand linear meters, along with sidewalk works covering an area of 48.9 thousand square meters, until the end of June 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety elements and improve infrastructure efficiency.

Bukhari pointed out that these works contributed to raising the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) in Dammam city to 67.9%, reflecting the continuous development in road network quality and maintenance efficiency, according to operation and maintenance programs based on technical indicators and advanced engineering standards. He affirmed that these achievements are an extension of the municipality's plans to develop infrastructure and improve road network efficiency, in line with the urban growth witnessed in the cities and governorates of the Eastern Province, and enhance the sustainability of municipal assets according to the highest engineering standards. He explained that the municipality implements proactive maintenance and operation programs that rely on assessing road conditions using advanced technical indicators, ensuring asset efficiency, extending their operational life, improving traffic safety levels, and providing a safe and sustainable road network serving residents and visitors.
