Tourist destinations are no longer measured solely by their natural features, but by their ability to create an integrated experience that leaves a positive psychological impact on the visitor, which is what 'tourism psychology' is concerned with. It focuses on studying the tourist's motives, behavior, and impressions, as well as the mechanisms for building a tourism experience that achieves satisfaction, encourages repeat visits, and contributes to forming a positive mental image of the destination, as one of the modern concepts supporting the development of the tourism sector.

Taif Governorate emerges as a model of this concept, with its abundance of natural, cultural, and heritage attractions, including the Shafa and Hada highlands, valleys and parks, resorts and rural inns, Taif rose farms, and traditional markets and villages.

Studying Tourist Behavior

Dr. Subhi Saeed Al-Harthi, professor of graduate studies at Umm Al-Qura University, explained that tourism psychology is concerned with studying tourist behavior before, during, and after the trip to understand their needs, expectations, and the factors influencing their decisions. He indicated that the success of tourist destinations is no longer linked only to the beauty of the place, but also to the quality of services, ease of access, good reception, efficiency of tourism guidance, and attention to details that create a positive impression encouraging the visitor to repeat the experience and pass it on to others.

He added that Taif possesses elements that make it one of the most prominent applied models of tourism psychology concepts, as its natural and cultural elements meet the visitor's psychological, social, and cultural needs. The mountainous nature, valleys, and green spaces provide a sense of calm and relaxation, while rural inns, farms, traditional markets, and heritage events enhance interaction with local identity and enrich the tourism experience with diverse cultural and human content.

Instilling Hospitality Values

Al-Harthi pointed out that positive tourism behavior of the local community is one of the most important success factors for tourist destinations, by instilling hospitality values, respecting the visitor, and providing services professionally, stressing that the integration of these elements reflects on the quality of the tourism experience and enhances Taif's competitiveness.
