In establishing the global network of cooperation centers for capacity building in artificial intelligence

Member states of the Global Network of Exchange and Cooperation Centers for Capacity Building in Artificial Intelligence praised the initiative to establish the network, noting the progress made in its development as a platform for cooperation and exchange of expertise, support for national strategies, and strengthening international partnerships in this field.

This came in a joint statement delivered by the Republic of Senegal during the Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, which concluded its work today with the participation of government leaders, decision-makers, international organizations, the private sector, academia, and civil society.

The network is the result of efforts led by the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE) under the auspices of UNESCO in Riyadh, the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence (SDAIA) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Republic of Kenya. It has evolved into a global network comprising specialized centers from various countries, based on a cooperation framework that enhances capacity building, exchange of expertise, and support for the development of national AI strategies in line with sustainable development priorities.

Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Shehri of the ICAIRE Center said, "These efforts reflect the growing international cooperation in AI capacity building," noting that the center's participation in the Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva contributed to expanding areas of collaboration and exchanging expertise and knowledge with peer centers and global institutions, thereby supporting the development of national capacities and consolidating best practices in this field.

He added that the center is ready to contribute to the implementation of the network's programs and initiatives, and to explore new areas of cooperation with member centers, in order to support the achievement of common goals and enhance international efforts to build a more inclusive and sustainable global system in AI capacity building, in line with international trends calling for broader participation of countries, academic institutions, centers of excellence, and the private sector in supporting these efforts.

The International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), established as a Category 2 center under the auspices of UNESCO in Riyadh, is a leading international center in promoting AI ethics, capacity building, and supporting international cooperation through launching qualitative initiatives, establishing strategic partnerships, and exchanging knowledge and expertise to harness AI technologies for sustainable development.
