Environmental / "Flamingo and Mangrove".. A Natural Partnership Crafting Beauty in Jazan
Jazan, Dhul-Hijjah 19, 1447 AH (June 5, 2026) – SPA – In the early hours of dawn, the shadows of mangrove trees reflect on the water's surface, while flocks of flamingos land nearby in a scene that encapsulates the rich biodiversity of the Jazan region. In the shallow waters reflecting the blue sky, flamingos in their bright pink hues spread among the intertwining mangrove trunks, dipping their beaks into the water in search of food, while mangrove branches droop over the surface like a living natural painting, embodying the harmony of organisms with Jazan's unique coastal environment. The flamingos are not just migratory birds, nor are the mangroves merely marine trees; rather, they are a shared story crafted by nature every day, where the roots guard life in the water while the pink wings paint features of beauty over the coastal horizon. These birds are found in several locations along the coast, where mangrove forests stretch to provide a nurturing environment for small marine organisms, algae, and crustaceans, which are among the most important food sources for flamingos during their seasonal migrations, using these sites as feeding and temporary settlement areas. Flamingos are distinguished by their unique foraging behavior, filtering water to extract microorganisms and algae, which are abundant in the moist environments around mangrove roots, making Jazan's coasts one of the important stops for these birds. Within the framework of interest in this environmental wealth in Jazan, efforts continue in implementing qualitative initiatives to plant mangroves and rehabilitate degraded sites through programs aimed at increasing the coastal vegetation cover and enhancing its sustainability. These efforts contribute to raising environmental awareness among the local community and encouraging participation in afforestation campaigns and coastal protection. These initiatives align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which places great importance on environmental protection, natural resource development, and biodiversity enhancement, supporting ecological balance and sustainable development. Jazan is a suitable environment for bird watching, as flamingo gatherings are observed in striking collective scenes that add aesthetic and tourist appeal to the area, in addition to their environmental and scientific value in studying migration routes and bird behavior. Mangrove forests and flamingos in Jazan represent two complementary models of coastal environmental balance, reflecting the importance of sustaining these natural systems and their role in supporting the environmental economy and eco-tourism in the region. // End // 10:28 AM 0027
