The National Center for Environmental Compliance issued 557 violations for the requirements of the procedural guide for controlling and suppressing dust in the city of Riyadh, with a total value exceeding 16 million Saudi riyals.

This comes to raise the level of compliance with environmental requirements and improve the quality of air surrounding projects within the urban area, according to Al Arabiya.

The center had launched a campaign in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City and the Riyadh Region Municipality, during which field teams conducted more than 3,000 tours of construction projects. The campaign observed that a number of construction projects failed to comply with the approved procedures for reducing dust emissions.

These obligations include implementing emission control measures during construction work, such as installing air quality monitoring devices on sites, spraying dust suppressants, covering transport trucks, and ensuring they comply with transportation movement as per the technical guide requirements.

The center also revealed that the observed violations were the result of monitoring activities based on analysis of air quality indicators from monitoring stations, reports from citizens in neighborhoods adjacent to the projects, and round-the-clock periodic inspections.

It pointed out that the monitored sites witnessed a response from the violators to work on stopping dust triggers at the site and to implement the requirements of the procedural guide published on the website of the center and the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.
