Future Planning for Affected Sites
The National Center for Environmental Compliance confirmed that environmental rehabilitation is no longer limited to addressing the effects of environmental degradation, but now includes planning for the future of sites after the completion of rehabilitation work, to ensure their sustainability and maximize their benefit. The center explained that rehabilitation plans include studying the environmental status of the site, identifying appropriate treatment procedures, developing a program to monitor the implementation of rehabilitation works and measure their results, in addition to determining the intended land use in line with its environmental characteristics. Regarding environmental sustainability, the center indicated that these steps contribute to the sustainable reuse of sites, while preserving their environmental value and reducing the recurrence of degradation, thereby enhancing the balance between development and environmental protection. It pointed out that planning for the future use of the site is one of the main elements in environmental rehabilitation plans, as it ensures investment of land according to its natural potential, and raises the efficiency of its management to achieve environmental sustainability and improve quality of life. These efforts are part of the center's initiatives to enhance compliance with environmental standards, support practices that protect natural resources, and achieve the Kingdom's environmental sustainability goals.
